RCLF
sidetrack ( RJ's LIBRARY! 3 stories!)

RCLF 7-11 MAR
http://rafflesclf.org/ ( youths with the heart GO GO GO see!)

The Raffles Community Leaders Forum aims to bring together community youth leaders from the ASEAN region to take an active stand on issues close to their hearts. It serves not only as a platform for youth to share experiences and network but more importantly, allows for the exchange of best practices and collaboration with peers of similar interests. In addition, they will explore the sustainability and feasibility of future projects to further their cause. This Forum provides participants with the opportunity to achieve these aims by allowing them to join Special Interest Groups (SIGs) relating to their specific areas of interest.

IMPACT OF POVERTY ON CHILDREN

Singapore India Indonesia Myanmar Japan Taiwan Cambdia Thailand USA
26 burning hearts.

we learnt about the impact of poverty on children around the world and exclusively in SEA n the US and the barriers that hinder the alleviation of poverty.

we watched documentary on child prostitution in Batam frequent by Singaporean men (80%)
condemn not only the men's actions..
but the action of women that turned men away.

we had speakers from UNICEF RIVERKIDS cambodia and WORLD VISION!

we came up with mini proposals and presented them to UN rep in Singapore and world vision Singapore!

we made many new frens, inter colleges and inter national!

our beautifully decorated room.
seniors put in alot of effort this whole year..

we came up with 4 key under-lying issue we can tackle,
ie education, health, family planning and unawareness in youths

our grp's education

indept disscussion of plans to alleviate poverty.
little steps can be life changing

to raise the awareness of youths regarding the impact of poverty on children,
we suggested a global youth network that connect youths and a platform for youths to find out areas in which they can help.

we had 3 plans
-moblie library
set up a library that goes from sch to sch in cambodia,
we even had the rules drafted out!

-OMG (opportunities meant for gals)
educated importance of education for gals in developing countries.
we will liase with local NGOs and put up posters and billboards on what can a girl do.
we will liase with local successful women and give them a platform to speak to the villages

-PIMP (peer instructional mentorship programme)
we believe that the emotional attachment goes a long way for the poor kids =)
they muz have a proper role model to look up to

another grp presenting to UNICEF rep to timor leste

our neighbour class was women's esteem and body image.

only 8% of women are born with "the body"
so do the women in magazines cover page have the same hot body or the same graphical designers?
no wonder our image of beauty is distorted.
it is inevitable for external forces such as the society , the media and men's preference to influence wad we women think is beautiful.
woomen have to take control of their lives and guard their mental and physical health
self esteem is their amour.

that SIG came up with proposals to how to they build up self-esteem of women.
